The picure below shows what a wide area of the rocks at the foot of the cliff are like. They've been worn smooth and many of their interiors appear to be softer than the outer walls since they've become hollowed out. Because the tide comes in and out here every 6 hours, they are home to all sort of beautiful creatures.
There is also a multi-colored bit of cliff face that leaks a tiny spring that forms a little pool.
I wish you could be here to see how the sun glistens on the wet face of that colored portion of the cliff. That's a little fresh water pool of course. |
Now look at this flat rock. It's a piece of art. Can you imagine if this was polished to a high sheen? It's about a metre by two metres in size.
We'll finish off today with a few shots of the seagulls Amiri lured in using chips. -djf
You can see that one gull has been knocked right off his feet. |
A couple of times I thought we were on the set of Hitchcock's The Birds. This shows a very small piece of sky. There must have been at least 50 flying all around, hoping for their chance. |
I love these close ups of the amazing environments and life at Army Bay Beach. Each one of those little hollowed out bowls seems to contain an entire ecosystem in miniature! The little snail shells in some of them look almost like pearls.
ReplyDeleteThat swirly patterned rock is so beautiful - I can imagine it as a centerpiece for a garden or a park. Even those common gulls are so cool - almost elegant - with their bright orange beaks and feet.
I hope you have an Army Bay Beach part 3! Can't get enough of this place until I'm able to see it in person!
The pictures are amazing for both parts of this blog. I loved the pictures of the boys with their respective activities. You could spend days there exploring every nook and cranny. I have seen seagulls but I do not remember seeing the birds with the red or orange beak and feet. Is that a NZ thing? You captured the birds so beautifully in these pictures. If they did that over a chip, imagine what they would do over a fish. This place is the perfect place for a picnic, complete with restrooms (hooray). McKenzie
