Sail from Auckland to Tahiti aboard the 'Tenacious'

While wandering around Auckland harbour, I came across this ship, the Tenacious, and wondered about the sign I saw. So, I took a few more photos, and when I had access to my computer again, I did some checking into the opportunity it announces from it's rigging.

The Tenacious, and her slightly smaller sister ship, The Lord Nelson, are British and the only two tall ships in the world that are wheel chair accessible. They were built by the Jubilee Sailing Trust specifically to give those with disabilities the chance to sail. The ships are also unique because although they are modern, they are wooden, the largest wooden sailing ships to have been built in the U.K. in over 100 years.

She's a 586 ton 'barque.'

Well named I think.

65 meters long, launched in 2000

Those sailing are paired up in a 'buddy system,' and do everything on board that needs doing. Everyone has the opportunity to steer, keep watches round the clock, prepare food and even climb up to the 'crow's nest.' (or be lifted)

Special hydraulics allow people with very little upper body strength to steer.

The decks are wide and flat for wheel-chairs.

There is a lift that allows wheel chair users to go below deck.

A 14-day voyage from Auckland to Fiji would cost $3,450.00, NZD
