I don't need to talk very much about fall. I've done more involved fall posts in the past. This year I think I'll mainly just show you what it looks like here.
I think this is an Aminita and it's the first one I've seen in New Zealand.
This was taken on June 7, 2018. June here corresponds to December in the northern hemisphere. You'll see in a couple more photos how plants here all keep to their own schedules.
The trees in the background show that it's fall here, and what do we play in the fall? Why football (soccer) of course.
Arram is in control.
A feature of the weather here in the fall and winter are almost constant showers that appear and disappear. Many of them are so light that no one takes much notice of them, unless you happen to be looking up and see the rainbows that accompany them.
I love these things. They seem to give off light. They're another plant that doesn't know it's fall I guess.

This is the rainy season. Even the wide tires of the mowers left lines of mud across the field as they mowed.
That's about as brilliant a display of colour as I've seen here.
This looks inviting, doesn't it?
Each of those little flowers is about 1/4 inch long. This picture was taken on 6-6-18.
It's true that we have flowers pretty much all winter long to keep us company, so we have it pretty good. No white-outs here. And I think our northern Michigan climate have given us an advantage when it comes to living here...
I was sitting at the main bus terminal in Henderson about a week ago. It was what I would call a perfect fall day. The sun was warm and the breeze was mostly warm, but seemed to be carrying with it just a hint of a bracing kind of coolness. I had on shorts and a short-sleeved shirt with a t-shirt underneath it. A woman in long flannel pants and several layers under a hooded parka came and sat next to me on the bench. She looked my way several times and then she seemed to lose patience and said to me, "Aren't you cold? That wind is biting right through me."
I said to her, "No, I'm not cold at all. I do have two layers on," indicating my layered shirts. "Yeah," she said, "But those layers are nothin', I get cold just looking at you." I said, "Well, where I come from, this is a beautiful day."
My Yooper blood is still doing it's job I guess. -djf

I've heard you talk in the past about how hardy and tough Kiwis are so it makes me wonder if that woman at the bus stop was a true Kiwi!
ReplyDeleteYour new normal for fall has lots of brilliance and beauty and I'm so happy you've chosen to show us the subtle grace of the bare trees juxtaposed with those gorgeous blooms of rhododendrons(?) red-hot-poker like flowers and those darling little trumpets!
I'm glad that you liked it.
