Recently, during the boys' school holiday, because I had signed up for the official doughnut newsletter, I got an ad from KK offering tickets for their special in-store kids' doughnut decorating activity. On July 18th, the boys, Jeanne and I rode down to Manukau for their 11:30 a.m. appointments.
This post, as you might guess, chronicles our adventure. As always, you're invited to come along, see the sights we saw, and join in the fun....
We've shown our tickets and are chillin' while the staff cleans up the area from the last go-round and sets up for ours. We're pretty excited.
A few minutes ago the boys watched the assembly line for a while.
Arram is adjusting his hat while Amiri opens his two-pack.
And look, there seems to be an extra place set up between the two boys. Maybe a no-show? Jeanne was invited by the staff to sit down and have at it, no charge. Woohoo, a free-bee!
Everyone is hard at it!
To create a masterpiece takes concentration.
These are Jeanne's creations
Amiri's masterpieces of culinary art
Delightful doughnuts by Arram
The boys wanted to save their special doughnuts for later. We walked over to a nearby Wendy's and had lunch. Then we started back to the train station. Along the way, we stopped off here for some playtime.

This is a skate-board park but there is nobody here.
Leaving the park, we passed through a grove of eucalyptus trees. The leaves really smelled good, in a sort of mediciny way.
We are close to the airport here. Can you tell?

We are approaching the train station.
In my first 'donut post,' I wondered about that huge building built over Manukau's underground train station. I discovered today that it is the Institute of Technology.
Amiri was happy to help old grandpa with the trolley. We had quite a treasure in it. A dozen regular doughnuts and six very special ones. We felt a little like we did a couple years back when we left the New Zealand Mint in downtown Auckland with some NZ silver in our pockets. Life is good.... -djf

Wow! Jeanne got to be a kid, too! What fun! Most interesting adventures!
