I know about her now and intend to give her some business every now and then. She's the grand old lady of Auckland nightlife. Come and meet her. I'm sorry I can't buy you a hamburger of some sort. We could find a bench nearby, watch the crowds walk by and eat our fill.
Here is my very own 'white lady' standing in front of Auckland's White Lady.
There is a recipe in this cookbook for The White Lady Hamburger.
This is Jeanne's copy of the cookbook...
and the recipe as it appears.
Jeanne and I tried burgers slightly smaller than The White Lady Burger, but equally as delicious.
Here's her menu:
I'm pleased that Jeanne and I are now part of the history of The White Lady. Check it out.
What do you think Dianne? Shall we do lunch? -djf
I love the pictures in your heading for me! I love them and I will think of them as I am braving my Winter walks. I also love the White Lady. What a great place. With its history and wonderful food, it reminds me Mickey's Diner in St. Paul. The burger looks fabulous. I would definitely get one with pineapple and other veggies. I loved seeing Jeanne in the picture also. McKenzie
ReplyDeleteI thought of Mickey's too and all that it has meant to generations of our family. Good memories.
ReplyDeleteThey have had to move because of heavy construction taking place right above them. Big new building going up. Unfortunately, I haven't discovered yet where they relocated. The last time I looked it wasn't on their website but I should check back for an update. Can't lose them so soon after finding them...
the White Lady definitely is a must-try place and hopefully we can find it where they relocated when I come back to visit in March! It's cool that Jeanne has her own Great New Zealand Cook Book with the White Lady Burger recipe - I bet she could faithfully re-create it just in case we can't find the restaurant.
ReplyDeleteLove the picture of Jeanne too!
See you in March.
