The babies are growing every day. Here are just a few more shots, mostly taken from inside the house so I don't scare the parents as they deliver another load. I thought that by this time, the nest must be getting putrid from all the waste the babies generate. BUT, look at the last shot. Mama picked that up from the nest and carried it away.
Sorry about this one. It's on such high magnification that my slightest shake throws the center off...at least you can see her about to feed.
I wonder how soon they'll be out trying their wings? -djf
Wow! 3 new posts in the last couple days! and what a nice little bird family you have there. They remind me of robins - is this the same species whose song Jeanne has compared to theirs? And what is that in the mama's beak in the last picture?
ReplyDeleteWell, it's so easy to get daily photos and post them. I'm curious about how the birds grow so maybe others are too.
ReplyDeleteThese are song thrushes. Jeanne says yes, she did once compare their song to a robin's. Since they're related, I guess it's no surprise.
It's poop.
I was thinking you'd say it was poop - but mama has to keep the nest clean somehow! I remember Jeanne saying this robin relative was a solid dark brown - but the females are obviously more camouflaged. I sure hope Slinky Malinky doesn't get the babies!
DeleteHere is information about them. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Song_thrush
ReplyDeleteThey are on a beam across our deck and are quite safe for the moment. And ideal nest site.
