St. Matthew-in-the-City Anglican Church.

This church is near the Sky Tower in Auckland and we've therefore walked past it many times during our rambles. It has always intrigued us. We've tried its doors each time as we've  passed, hoping to be able to take a look inside.  Unfortunately, it has always been locked.

Recently, I got lucky and discovered that the doors were open. I went in and spent the next half hour or so quietly admiring the beauty and recording it to share with you.  It was every bit as beautiful as we thought it might be.

I think 'magnificent' is an apt description, don't you?          -djf

  1. This is where we went for a 'Concert by Candlelight' one night a few months ago. They'd cleared out the pews and the musicians performed in the round on the main floor. It was pretty awesome and the only thing I wished is to be able to poke around more to see the architecture and the stained glass. So this is just great!

  2. I had seen some of those 'Candlelight' ads but didn't know it was at this church. That must have been amazing to see.
The pictures turned out pretty well, but they don't really do it justice. The lighting in there was just perfect that day.

  3. I am so thankful that the church was open recently for you. These pictures are amazing but I understand that a picture cannot do it justice. I hope that you can go to a concert there. I bet the acoustics are impressive also. McKenzie

  4. You are undoubtedly right about the acoustics. One of the pictures shows part of a pipe organ.
