Are you hungry? I think you will be.

It's Thursday night and time for another Thursday Night Market in the carpark underneath K Mart. The market runs from 5 pm to 11 pm. I always arrive just before 5 because it gets crazy busy later on and is not as pleasant in my opinion, when you're elbow to elbow with the hordes of hungry people. And it's harder then to take pictures, as you might imagine.

So, just scroll through this range of pictures and see if any appeal to you.

The squid in the foreground is raw. You select whether you want the body or tentacles grilled.

Meat on sticks is very popular. Very tasty, and you can nibble as you look for your next treat.

I guess the blowtorch speeds things up.

This is what I finally chose. I bought two of each of these, took them home, and shared them with Jeanne. The girl selling them gave each a squirt of soy sauce before closing up the takeaway box.

I didn't stay long but I enjoyed the smells and excitement of another market night. As I was leaving, a group of about 30 students was arriving. They looked hungry, as students often do and were fanning out among the stalls.

Yup, good time to leave, I thought as I made my way past them with my dumplings.

Is this the same market and place you and Jeanne took me to? I remember it was in the underground parking area of what I thought was the mall where Countdown was. You both helped me choose some tasty things - but it seems I have a lot of catching up to do! I hope it is open in November... 😊

It all looked wonderful. I have never had Korean fried chicken or pork. I am sure I would love it. I don't eat much fried food BUT that would be worth it. I'm glad that I just had dinner or I would really hungry from this post. I loved the dumplings also. McKenzie

My deer blind, a place outside of time and space.

This is a picture of my deer hunting blind. I built in in 1975 and used it until about 2010. I'm publishing this picture and text on November 15 of 2022, the opening day of Michigan's rifle deer hunting season, to remember all the years I spent sitting there and occasionally harvesting a deer. I think that the meat I provided for my family was only a small portion of the benefit I received from hunting in this manner. Of greater value to me was the time I spent alone, watching the forest and its many components interact. I had time to unwind from the stresses of my work, to appreciate our world, and even sometimes to pray. That blind was a refuge to me. It was cozy, and comfortable and I spent much more time filming the activities of not only deer, but bears, racoons, turkeys, squirrels, hawks, and once, even a snowy owl, than I did harvesting deer. May I suggest to all of you that you try to find some time and a place, where you can be alone, and where you can ponder and appreciate your life and your place in the world. It does a body good. -djf
