Pot o' Gold

( Looking at the rainbow in the first picture, I must have been thinking of a pot of gold. From there, I segued to Heart of Gold and I realized I wanted to listen to it while I looked at these colors. I hadn't heard it for some time and it's always been a favorite.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3IA6pIVank  As usual, the song is on a separate page so you can click back to look at the pictures while listening. )

In an earlier post I showed you two photos of this Norfolk Pine showering in the rainbow.

With this one, I thought that I'd expand a little on that start.  I've looked at that tree so many times since we moved here. Each time I step out onto our balcony, my eyes are drawn that way. It reminds me of a tree from my childhood. We kids admired how it towered over all the other trees on Rolando's HIll by at least 20 feet. I think it was a spruce. We would sometimes see the sun come up from behind it (and the hill) at breakfast. (Do you remember, Mary?) As a kid, I never did climb the hill and see the tree up close. I wish I had.

In the beginning, my impression was that today's tree was at a fairly great distance from me. With time and repeated viewings however, I came to realize that it's not that far off at all. And then one day, a rainbow highlighted this tree in a new way for me.

After inserting all eight of my rainbow pine pictures into this post, I decided I needed some additional shots to complete it, so off I went one day. My goal was to walk to the other side of the tree and take some shots from that new perspective. And what do you know? I found it.  But I discovered that it is the middle of a block of houses and I could not approach it closely. While it measures just 822 metres from our apartment to the tree as the tui flies, I had to walk about 1 1/2 kms. to take some pictures. The roads in that subdivision wind around amazingly.

I was able to walk all the way around it though and snap a few from a distance.

Take a look.

It's on the top of a hill.

I've seen this pine from all sides now,

From up and down, and still somehow,

I've not yet wearied of this tree

The rainbow picked it out, you see.

  1. What a gorgeous tree! I don't know that I remember a similar one on Rolando's hill but I do remember the huge trees in that area. I did go down the junky road back in the woods by our old house but I don't remember going all the way down to Rolando's hill. Plus, I would have been scared of Pasco anyway. My favorite spot in the hills was back there. I don't remember how far down it was but you could see Karling Road from it I think. Anyway, I loved that you were able to see the tree from both sides. I loved the music also and that song brings back many memories of playing records that in my room. I loved "Brandy" also about the woman who loved the sailor. Love to all and Happy 4th today for us here in the U.S. McKenzie

  2. No, you wouldn't have remembered it. We moved from that house while you were still very young. And the big storm brought it down before we moved besides.
I've been looking at old 4th pictures from Bark River. I hope your celebration has been exciting.
