Returned Services Association

The RSA (Returned Services Association) of New Zealand was founded in 1916 and was originally known as The Returned Soldiers' Association. Support of those who have returned from war and remembrance of those who did not has been the goal of the organization since then.

Here are a few photos from Henderson and Glen Eden of the buildings and war memorials.

April 17 is 'Poppy Day' here and RSA volunteers offer poppies at donation kettles all over the country. The Red Poppy Restaurant is attached to the RSA building in Henderson and serves mainly the members but often the public too, much like our VFW's do I think.

Here is a picture of the 'RSA Badge.'                -djf

  1. It is wonderful that patriotism is alive and well in NZ also. What is a housie? I saw a sign on one of the buildings? Poppy day also means Spring here but it is getting to be near Fall there I guess. We are so ready for Spring. Still, I cannot complain as this winter was not as bad as last year. Of course, winter is not likely over yet. Still, it will be 45 degrees next week in Minneapolis apparently so that is wonderful. My Mother Mary statue will be going out soon. McKenzie

  2. Doug, very interesting. Yes, it looks to be much like The American Legion and VFW in the United States. Very nice to see our Countries also take Pride and Honor those who served. - Tim

  3. I walked past the Henderson RSA and Red Poppy Restaurant with Jeanne and Doug on several occasions as we were shopping for groceries and I think I also saw the Glen Eden memorial too.

I agree with both of you, McKenzie and Tim! it is good that our countries honor those who served lest we forget.
